CLASSLIST IN THE PRESS
Classlist cash for technology fund – Harrogate Advertiser
Classlist co-founder Clare Wright, together with Harrogate business leaders Ken Gibson of Alexander Gibson Estate Agents and Andrew Meehan of Harrogate Family Law today presented a £540 cheque to Western Primary School Headteacher Cheryl Smith, helping kickstart the PTA’s new technology fund.
Classlist is now the largest private social network for school parents, snowballing since 2015 with over 1,500 UK schools registered. Classlist is free to users and supported by local sponsors. Western Primary, a flagship Harrogate school, was an early Classlist adopter with a strong vision of using new technology to build parent engagement. Over 90% of parents are now active school community participants through Classlist’s platform. Helen Ellis from the school’s PTA became a nationwide leader in using Classlist’s innovative revenue share scheme, where PTAs which introduce local sponsors keep 50% of the proceeds. Given ever tightening school budgets, this win–win model, where local businesses partner with the PTA to raise funds and give parents visibility of their services, has enormous potential.
PTA member Helen Ellis commented: “As a working mum who can’t be at the school gate every day, Classlist makes me feel much more involved with what’s happening in my children’s lives – that feels positive and empowering. The fact that Classlist also helps us to raise money for the school is a huge bonus. We will be putting today’s cheque towards the purchase of new IT equipment.”
Classlist founders Susan Burton and Clare Wright commented: “We’re thrilled to see Classlist making parents’ lives easier at Western Primary, and the PTA taking advantage of what can be a hugely powerful fundraising tool at any school.”
Ken Gibson, Partner at Alexander Gibson Estate Agents commented: “The Classlist platform has some great benefits for schools and for parents, particularly in fundraising. We’re very happy to support Western Primary, and look forward to supporting other schools in the area in this way.”
Andrew Meehan, Managing Director of Harrogate Family Law commented: “As a Harrogate business owner and parent of a child at Western, I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the school community in this way and support the PTA in its fundraising for new technology that will help students build the skills they need for future learning and employment.”
Western Primary School, located at Cold Bath Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG2 0NA, is part of Multi-Academy Trust the Red Kite Learning Trust. The school teaches 460 children between the ages of 2 and 11.
