Sponsor Profile: Entrepreneurs James and Robbie Bernard talk to Classlist

Q1: What is your business and why did you set it up?

Plus Rooms is a Design & Build company with more than 15 years experience in designing and completing all type of home extensions. We inherited the business from our parents; there’s a lot of knowledge that has been passed on that we’ve been able to build and improve on – we’ve taken the company from a basic model and tried to push the boundaries to offer more complex, creative and design driven options, supported by our comprehensive service. Our processes are honed to make Plus Rooms London’s leading Design & Build company.

Q2: What made you decide to become an entrepreneur?

We are from an entrepreneurial family and grew up around people who have were inspiring, creative and ambitious – and were willing to push the boundaries. Guess it rubs off!

Q3: What is your favourite part of being an entrepreneur?

Its different for each of us but collectively it’s the constant learning and developing, even though we’ve been in the business for many years we’re both still challenged and motivated by what each days holds. Improving our processes and quality of outcomes has been a huge part of the last few years and its very rewarding to reap the benefits now and see the enjoyment clients get from their completed projects….the Plus Rooms family is a great team to work with.

Q4: Why did you locate your business in this area? What do you like about it?

Our operational model started locally and grew throughout the London area as recommendations on our work steadily poured in. Whilst our offices are in Northwood & Richmond we actually operate throughout the London area with one of us based in Acton, then other in Hampstead, so it easy to get out and about to client and build sites.

Q5: Who inspires you most? Why?

Without doubt, our grandfather who started up one of the first loft conversion companies in London back in the 60’s.

Q6: What memory do you have of your own school days?

We both went to Watford Grammar and have fond memories, we actually have two colleagues/friends at Plus Rooms who we knew at school too so links from our earlier years run right through to today. That’s why school is more important than you might think, who knows what connections you make there that will continue in the future!

Q7: What do you like about supporting your local school community?

Schools are one of the most important hubs in any community, especially those that have an active parent/teacher group. We always sponsor school events in the local areas we operate as we believe its important to support the communities in which we work. Many of our clients have young children, hence their desire to expand and improve their living spaces, so we feel a connection with parents particularly. James has young children himself and can already see the benefit Classlist makes in maintaining and improving a strong cohesive school community that’s connected and involved – just as we want to be.
