Rory talks to Classlist about bluebell woods being an inspiration in his school days and what he likes about being an entrepreneur.
Q1: What is your business and why did you set it up?
Rory Andrews Landscape Design was set up so that I could create my own style of gardens; to make my mark on the industry.
Q2: What made you decide to become an entrepreneur?
As a design consultant, it is the ultimate goal.
Q3: What is your favourite part of being an entrepreneur?
Anyone self employed takes control of their own destiny.
Q4: Why did you locate your business in this area? What do you like about it?
It is my spiritual home. The rolling hills, fields, woodlands and River Thames of South Oxfordshire are all inspirations to me; as can be seen in my forthcoming ‘South Oxfordshire Landscape Garden’ at Hampton Court Flower Show this July.
Q5: Who inspires you most? Why?
There are a number of garden/landscape designers who inspire me; it’s par for the course in any design industry. The greatest thing about being a landscape designer is being able to identify all the plants in the landscape. To be able to discern particularly good specimens or extraordinarily shaped trees/plants is a real joy.
Q6: What memory do you have of your own school days?
The blue bells in the woods at school were something that we all took for granted; a real eye-catcher for adults though. The grounds at the school were superb and the summer nights were longer!
Q7: What do you like about supporting your local school community?
Hopefully inspiring young people into more creative pursuits and engaging with nature.
